Tips for life
We can make our lives easier and happier, make ourselves more appealing to others, and make success more likely, if we do these simple things:<!–[endif]–>
- Don’t believe everything you hear or read.
- You can’t please everyone so don’t try.
-
You only get one shot at life so give it the best you’ve got.
- Count your blessings.
- Your mind can only focus on one thought at a time so make it a positive and pleasant thought.
- Don’t try to control anyone or allow anyone to control you.
- Before you go to sleep write down anything that is troubling you and/or the things you need to do the next day. You can then relax and sleep more soundly.
- Never jeopardize your integrity or your reputation.
- When necessary don’t be too proud to admit that you are wrong, that you need help, that you are sorry, or that you don’t know something.
- Cultivate a sense of humour.
- You can learn something from everyone (even children and the elderly).
- Don’t put things off.
- Pull your weight and do your fair share.
- Pay attention.
- Be loyal.
- Don’t let anyone rush you into making important decisions.
- Don’t let anyone talk you into doing anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.
- If something (or someone) seems too good to be true, it probably is.
- Have good manners.
- Be tactful.
- Reserve judgement until you have all the information.
- Life isn’t fair so don’t expect it to be and you won’t feel like a victim.
- Learn to say ‘no’ politely by firmly.
- Don’t burn your bridges.
- Learn to see things from the other person’s point of view and to imagine how they feel.
- Keep your cool.
- Don’t gamble, gossip, whine or complain.
- Don’t take those you love for granted.
- Don’t make promises you can’t keep.
- We are all influenced by those around us so surround yourself with good people.
- Don’t always try to be right but rather try to do right.
- Be a good loser and a good winner.
- Learn from your mistakes so that you don’t have to repeat them.
- Have a plan (for your career, life, health and wealth).
- Don’t take everything so seriously.
- Embrace self-improvement.
- Life is unpredictable so don’t be smug or complacent.
- Look for a job or career that matches your values, interests, temperament and abilities.
- Don’t waste energy carrying grudges.
- Have good posture.
- Be someone others want to be around—be positive, cheerful and enthusiastic.
- Be curious. Ask questions, look beneath the surface.
- Don’t get worked up over trivialities (such as bad drivers, rude service people or waiting in queues). Life is too short to waste time and energy on unimportant things.
- Carefully read anything that you have to sign.
- Be kind.
- Avoid people who are negative, domineering, bossy, complaining, gossipy, criminal, critical, envious or who you simply don’t enjoy being around.
- Be punctual.
- Always wear your seatbelt.
- Pay your bills on time.
- Learn to really listen (instead of just waiting for your turn to talk).
- Remember people’s names.
- Smile.
- Take a walk every day.
- Chose a romantic partner with care. That choice alone will be responsible for 90% of your happiness or misery.
- Look after your body. You only get one.
- Be brave.
- Save at least 10% of your income.
- Try to see the best in every situation.
- Take responsibility for your own life and decisions.
- Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated.
- Return everything you borrow.
- Don’t get caught up in the status game (by having to keep up with the Joneses).
- Don’t assume that everyone has the same beliefs, standards, values, tastes, needs or desires that you do.
- Have good boundaries – don’t intrude or impose on others or allow them to intrude or impose on you (physically or emotionally).
