Ten common crazy beliefs
Without recognizing it, irrational beliefs may be limiting you and your life. Do you believe any of the following myths?
- I must be loved, or at least liked or approved of, by everyone.
- To be worthwhile, I must never make mistakes and must succeed at everything I do.
- When people say, do, or believe things that I don’t, they must be mad or bad.
- If things don’t go the way I want them to it is a catastrophe.
- When I am unhappy it is because of things completely outside of my control and there is nothing I can do about it.
- I need to worry about all the dangerous, frightening, and unpleasant things that might happen.
- It is easier to put off something difficult or unpleasant than to face it.
- I need someone to depend on and take care of me. Being alone is terrible.
- Events in the past caused my current problems and there is nothing I can do now to solve them.
- Other people’s problems and unhappiness should upset me. If they don’t, it means I’m cold and callous.
